Let no man, being tempted, say, I am tempted of God. For God cannot be tempted by evil things, and himself tempts no one. As a believer, our way of life is to live by the "newness of life", the eternal life of God. We abide in Christ and live by this new life. God doesn't tempt us with evil because He is never tempted by evil. So when we are tempted it is never that this life from God is tempted. What temptation goes for is our own old life —the flesh . So even as you sense temptation, you feel it by the self-life and not the eternal-life. Hide and abide in Him —then flee temptation because He is never tempted. 

So that, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath  Could we take the words "quick to listen" to first mean listening to the Lord? Of course in conversation and fellowship we need to be quick to listen and slow to speak, but how does that help you be "slow to wrath"?  The more you listen, the angrier you become in many cases. But if while listening, you hear the Lord first, then afterward, by the Spirit of God, your words will be as "oracles of God" and your heart will be "after God's heart." There is still room for anger occasionally, but it comes very slow. In front of righteous anger, there is patience and mercy.

Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings [baptisms], the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. One way of studying the Bible is to focus on one of the 66 books of the Bible. Some call this a book study. All of us can probably accomplish a basic overview study of each book of the Bible. We may only have enough time in life to thoroughly study a few books, but we can all gain a foundational understanding of what the Bible is saying in each book. Before turning to any commentaries, overview books, or even sermons, you'll want to first: read through that book of the Bible at least 5 times. During those five readings, you can 1. Read through for fun :D Without any specific focus, it's nice to read through and see what impresses you or stands out to you. You don't need to write anything down, but sometimes it'd be helpful. This first time reading through may be more of a devotional focus. 2. The Wise Steward This steward wasn't commanded to pray this way. He was given the responsibility for the task but knew that the God of his master Abraham was real and heard prayers. From all of his experiences in this household, he himself developed such a relationship to where he would pray "O Lord". He also was full of wisdom during this whole process. There's no hint of selfishness or sadness in the realization that the wealth of Abraham goes to Isaac. This steward as the leader of Abraham's servants was probably the commander of the 318 trained warriors from Genesis 14. He must have shown such character and godliness that Abraham even figured he was the one to inherit everything as is said in Genesis 15 (after the battle against the 4 kings). This is the overflow of a household that serves the Lord together.
